NUUK: Wassam Azaqeer, a Lebanese, who lives in a country surrounded by icebergs called “Greenland”, is the only Muslim in this state who is fasting daily for 21 hours with full determination.
Greenland is the largest island in the world; lies between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean; a self-governing province of Denmark.
According to an Arab TV report, Wassam Azaqeer, who is living in Greenland from the past several years and has been called “Arab Columbus” as he is the only Arab Muslim who not only managed to live in Greenland-despite for its long and difficult journey, but also running a successful business in the capital city of Greenland called Nuuk.
Wassam, is running his own restaurant where he receives 200 customers each day.
The month of the Ramdan,this year, came in summer so Wassam has to fast for 21 hours and after Iftari he only got 2 hours to prepare for Sehri to start next fast.
In these 2 hours Wassam, also has to offer his Maghrib and Isha prayers. Wassam says that he is very proud Muslim to be living on a state where he is the only one fasting and praying in the name of Allah.
He says he sometimes think about going to Lebanon in this holy month but he stops himself by thinking that if left Greenland, there wont be anyone to fast and pray on this land.

Ireally appreciate the efforts of the Muslim brother may the almighty reward him for his efforts..but he is unnecessarily making life difficult for himself..the scholars have told to adopt the timings of the any neighboring country/city which has normal timings..come to think of it..if that wasn’t the case will one fast for 6months if we live on the north/south pole..where its night for 6 months and day for 6 months..
verily the religion of the creator is simple no need to make it difficult..pls. spread the word..
ALLAH makes it easy for those who have the strong will to do….
Sahl ibn Sa`d reported that the Prophet (S) said: “The people will not cease to be upon good as long as they hasten in breaking the fast.” [Bukhari and Muslim].
Sahl also reports that the Prophet (S) said: “The Ummah will not cease to be upon my Sunnah as long as they do not await the stars when breaking the fast”. [Ibn Hibban; Sahih]

If he is the only one who is fasting there, I hope that he is giving lots of dawah to the non-muslims there since then it would be fard upon him to ensure that the non-muslims there get the call to Islam since he is in a land where he is the only muslim. At least he should try his best. If the people refuse, then that’s another story. He should at least convey the message and give the people the right to refuse.
Remember there was a city in the Qur’an that Allah destroyed because it was full of corruption and no Islam. However, when the angels were sent to destroy it, they were shocked to see just one man Muslim worshipping Allah very often. However, when they went to tell Allah, Allah merely said, “Start with him.” Since it may have been that the Muslim man didn’t say anything to the other people to lower the corruption and be guided. He just ignored and kept on worshipping Allah by himself. So this muslim man in Greenland should be careful and give dawah, insha’Allah.
